The balancing act
This adventure is going to change our lives forever, but until it starts, I am having to do a balancing act with my photography.
I make my living as a Wedding Photographer. Weddings pay all of our bills and they are the very reason that we are able to go on this trip in the first place. I love shooting weddings! I love the chaos, the fast pace, having to get a great shot in very little time.... I love it!
At the same time, I know weddings aren't going to last forever and I don't want to be 50 years old and still shooting weddings. That gives me 10 years to find something else I love and can make good money with for a long time. This is why I am getting into the Landscape Photography scene. It's the exact opposite of Weddings! I'm learning to take my time, go slow and be patient. The shot isn't always there, so I might have to go back another day and shoot it again, where as with weddings, you get one shot and you have to make it happen!
As we travel through America in 2016, I'll still be shooting weddings, but I'll be flying back for them all. My hope is, along the way, that I will find a way to sell landscapes or pictures of Airstreams during my travels. If the year goes great and people are loving what I do, then we may go out for another year! Who knows
Social media is a huge part of what I do and right now it's tough to know what to post and what not to post. I have a lot of people who follow me because of my wedding photography, many new people who follow my landscape work and others that follow me just to see pictures of the Airstream. I actually have 3 separate accounts that I thought would fix this problem, but I've built such a good fan base off of my @joehendricks account, that it feels weird to go with anything else. My other accounts are @joehendricksphotography and @airstreamphotography
Those are all real good names, but my entire business is built off of my name, so I'm in the middle of wondering how to handle this situation. So for now, as you are looking through my feed, you will be seeing weddings, landscapes, airstream, family, personal..... you name it. I'm kind of all over the place.
If any of you have some advice and you know what you're talking about, I would love to hear from you!
Thanks for following our adventures!
